Once again Amanda Serrano is set to make history in the sport of boxing. The 34-year-old will defend three of her belts against Danila Ramos in a bout scheduled for 12 three-minute rounds. Since women boxers usually compete for 10 two-minute rounds for title fights, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, standing by the “safety and well-being of the fighters,” initially refused to sanction Serrano vs. Ramos.

However, overcoming all obstacles, determined “to be treated the same as their male counterparts,” Amanda Serrano will lock horns with Ramos for 12 three-minute rounds and prove “how incredible women’s boxing is“. Likewise, while Mauricio Sulaiman initially refused to sanction the mentioned fight, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe rallied behind Serrano.

Ahead of her fight with Ramos on October 27, Ariel Helwani interviewed Serrano on The MMA Hour. On being asked if there will be a time when women boxers regularly fight for 12 three-minute rounds, Serrano said she was “hoping“. In her opinion, her upcoming bout with Ramos will be “the first step”.

Furthermore, she declared, “My job on the 27th is to go out there and prove that we are capable of going the 12 three-minute rounds.” In no time, Serrano’s statements caught Ellerbe’s notice.
