Undeniably, Ryan Garcia is a massive underdog going into Saturday night’s fight at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. While ‘King Ry’ has drawn massive crowds because of his popularity, Devin Haney has achieved unparalleled success in the sport, that too by defeating some heavy hitters. However, Oscar De La Hoya is confident about Garcia’s strategy to win the fight.

Nearly every fan, every expert, is betting on Haney getting his hand raised tonight. However, Garcia’s promoter has not given up on his star fighter. While appearing in the MMA Hour, the head of Golden Boy Promotions spoke about Garcia’s ace in the sleeve, suggesting he would look to take advantage of it during the fight, live on DAZN.

Speaking to the retired boxing world champion, Ariel Helwani couldn’t resist asking: “Who is feeling the heat more, Garcia or Haney”? Having experienced trash talk and being in the spotlight, Oscar confidently said, “I think Devin does!” Hearing the shocking statement, Helwani dove in by asking De La Hoya to elaborate.

Oscar responded, “Just with all the talk that’s been going on. I mean, I’ve been watching him closely.” The famed promoter highlighted how Haney’s demeanor has changed over time since the fight was announced. “[In] the buildup, Haney was calm. He was like, ‘Yeah, it’s going to be a good fight.’ But then when he sees Ryan [now], he gets all just wilded up,” said Oscar.

Speaking further on his theory, Oscar explained, “Now lately, come fight week, he’s pushing Ryan, he’s doing this and that. And he’s really pissed. That’s a sign of frustration, and what I can see is Devin Haney getting so frustrated, wanting to knock out Ryan and making mistakes.” As per Oscar, that’s exactly what Garcia wanted, and would look to exploit during the fight.

While fans will have to see whether Garcia could take advantage of Haney’s rage, the latter has revealed his strategy to beat Garcia come fight night.

Haney promises fireworks with this scheme

The buildup to the highly talked about fight has been chaotic to say the least! During last night’s final weigh-ins, Garcia even showed up 3.2 lbs heavier, losing his opportunity to swipe Haney’s belt. However, Haney doesn’t seem too bothered by a few extra pounds as he revealed his strategy to defeat Garcia in an interview with Marca

“It all starts with beating Ryan Garcia. That’s my main focus. On April 20, there will be fireworks: the world will see it,” said Haney. Coming to his strategy, Haney added, “I think he’ll get reckless and I think he’ll run into something. I’ll use his aggression against him—I’ll hurt him. It will hurt him.”

With hours left in the fight, the strategies from either fighters are seemingly all out in the open. However, who is crowned the victor will depend upon who can execute their plans better. Will Haney’s defence prove too much for Garcia to penetrate? Or will Garcia’s aggression get the better of Haney?
