

Hollywood actor Will Smith received a 10 year Oscar ban for slapping Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards. In reaction, a fan took to Twitter to compare the stark differences in Smith’s ban when compared to the ban received by Mike Tyson.

Mike Tyson had infamously bitten off Evander Holyfield’s right ear during their rematch in 1997. The Nevada State Athletic Commission banned Tyson for 15 months due to the incident.
However, Will Smith received a 10-year ban for his actions. The striking differences in the treatment of both incidents was visible to fans.

Twitter user @CivilianBlogger was quick to point out the unfair differences in a post. He further goes on to show a comparison between the two incidents.
The user also further shows his shock, by exclaiming with an audible, “REALLY?”

Will Smith vs Mike Tyson
A side-by-side comparison of both the incidents throws light on the fan’s reaction to Smith’s ban.
‘Iron’ Mike Tyson was facing Evander Holyfield for their WBA Heavyweight Championship rematch. The fight took place at MGM Grand Arena on June 28, 1997.
Holyfield dominated the first two rounds with his technical prowess. In the last 40 seconds of the third round, Holyfield got Tyson in a clinch. This was when Tyson bit Holyfield’s right ear. Millions of live TV fans watched in horror as Tyson spat the bitten piece of Holyfield’s ear on the ring.

Tyson, however, blamed Holyfield’s head-butting for his reaction.
NSAC revoked Tyson’s boxing license after the incident. Tyson was also fined $3 million. However, the license revocation was not permanent, and it was reinstated in 15 months.

Chris Rock had come on stage to present the ‘Best Documentary Feature’ award. On stage, Rock was casually joking with the audience and also reading from the teleprompter.
Smith’s wife Jada had sported a buzzed hairdo at the event, owning to her alopecia. Rock made a comment about her hairdo, comparing her to Demi Smith’s hairdo in G.I. Jane.
Smith, who was first seen laughing at the joke, later walks on stage and smacks Rock across the face. The incident caused a furor among the fans and organizers, leading to the 10-year ban.
