Former IBF super middleweight champion William Scull has made a stunning revelation regarding instructions he claims were given by His Excellency Turki Alalshikh ahead of his bout with now two-time undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez. The two clashed earlier this month in Las Vegas in what turned out to be one of the most uneventful performances of Canelo’s career.

Scull appeared more focused on staying out of harm’s way than engaging, while ‘Cinnamon’ struggled to cut off the ring effectively and land significant shots. The result? A tactical snoozefest that left fans and analysts questioning Canelo’s readiness for his next opponent, two-weight undisputed champion Terence Crawford, scheduled for September 12th.

The fight was historically uneventful, setting a CompuBox record for the fewest combined punches thrown in a 12-round bout—just 445 in total (Alvarez threw 152, Scull 293). That shattered the previous low set by Deontay Wilder vs. Joseph Parker in 2023, which had 468 punches (Wilder 204, Parker 264).

Adding to the dismay, Alvarez’s 152 punches were the second-fewest ever recorded by an individual fighter in a 12-round fight. The optics were far from ideal for Canelo, especially considering the massive promotional weight behind his Saudi deal. But now, Scull’s comments have added a layer of controversy. According to Scull, Turki Alalshikh personally asked him not to “mistreat” Canelo—a request that has raised eyebrows across the boxing world.

“He came to the locker room to greet me and asked how I felt. I told him, ‘Good for knocking out Canelo.’ But he told me, ‘Don’t mistreat him; we have other businesses and other plans.’ What is he implying there?” Scull was quoted as saying by Swing Completo in an interview with La Casaca Boxing Club on YouTube.

Scull elaborated further! “He told me they had other plans and other contracts. What is he implying? That it will go downhill. Honestly, it will benefit some boxers, but for others like me who are struggling, it will hurt.” It’s important to note that His Excellency signed Canelo Alvarez to a four-fight deal earlier this year, with the Scull bout being the first and the highly anticipated Crawford showdown lined up as the second.

Despite Scull’s claims, people are already hyped for Canelo vs. Crawford! And predictions have also started pouring in.

What’s your perspective on:

Did Scull's revelation expose a hidden agenda in Canelo's fight, or is it just sour grapes?

Jim Lampley predicts Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford

Legendary boxing commentator Jim Lampley has shared his early prediction for the highly anticipated clash between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford. While praising both fighters, Lampley leaned slightly toward the Mexican superstar. “I do like him against ‘Bud’ Crawford, but I do think it’s a great fight,” Lampley told Chris Mannix.

He credited Canelo’s evolution since his loss to Floyd Mayweather, highlighting his counter-punching, power, and resilience. However, Lampley didn’t shy away from expressing admiration for Crawford. “’Bud’ Crawford to me is a latter-day Sugar Ray Robinson. He has multiple skills of Sugar Ray Robinson.”

Lampley then added, “He can defend or attack. He has a deep inner mean streak that he can employ at any moment in a fight to get what he wants.” Calling both men “the two greatest professionals of this era,” Lampley believes their showdown is destined to be a boxing spectacle.

That said, on one hand, William Scull seems to be making massive revelations about the Canelo fight. On the other hand, people seem to be moving away from the fight earlier this month. Do you think Scull’s claims have any weight?
