The stage was set, and the tickets were sold. The fans were waiting to cheer the name of their favorite for the fight that was about to take place. But, as anticipated, the matchup between Vergil Ortiz Jr and Eimantas Stanionis was canceled yet again for the third time. It seems the stars are not yet aligned for these two sensations to clash in the boxing ring. Ortiz Jr fainted leading up to the fight and had to be rushed to the hospital.

The fight was cancelled on grounds of concern for the 25-year-old’s health, as claimed by Golden Boy Promotions. But, this cancellation has yet again delayed Eimantas Stanionis’ wait to make his mark in the Welterweight division.

Eimantas Stanionis awaits glory

In the public statement given by Golden Boy Promotions, the representatives said, “Nothing is more important than the safety of our fighters, and we, of course, support Vergil’s decision 100%.” There has been no public announcement about Ortiz Jr’s medical condition and the reason behind him passing out.

These two are the top five Welterweights and a clash between them is the only way to end the debate of the better fighter between the two. However, Stanionis doesn’t have any other opportunity but to wait for his turn to write his name on the canvas of the greats. There was no doubt that Stanionis is the underdog in this matchup. And, he himself is in acceptance of that fact. But, rather than being bothered by that, he likes that tag.

Why were the fights between the two cancelled before?

The first fight between the two was scheduled on March 18th. But, Stanionis had to undergo an emergency appendectomy which led to the postponement of the fight. The second time the fight was postponed as Ortiz Jr experienced a comeback of rhabdomyolysis. He was not in the physical condition to fight. His medical condition needed urgent attention, and so he had to prioritize it.
