The word on the street is that the Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga event in Las Vegas last Saturday night could have been better. However, a recent report revealed that the event turned out to be a pay-per-view and gate success. How much did it sell?

Well, earlier today, Boxing Kingdom turned to X, sharing supposed sales numbers for the Las Vegas event. According to their post, the event produced $17 million in gate revenue from ticket sales alone. Also, the Sports Business Journal claimed that the event sold 650,000 PPVs, making it a very successful affair.

This PPV success of the event is surprising despite carrying the unusually high price tag of $89, which had earlier caused concerns among pundits before the event. However, one big part of this success can also be credited to the date itself, as Canelo chose to have the Mexico vs. Puerto Rico fight on Mexican Independence Day.

According to Premier Boxing Champions and TGB Promotions, the duo fought in front of a sold-out crowd of 20,312, which ended with Canelo emerging victorious one more time. Berlanga came into the fight undefeated, but Canelo proved too much for the New Yorker.

Canelo Alvarez seemed eager to get rid of Berlanga from the beginning, as he continued his onslaught of heavy punches, which was courtesy of Berlanga’s trash talk during a press conference before the fight. Regardless, Canelo dropped Berlanga in the 3rd-round just to secure a victory via a unanimous decision later.

This just goes to show no matter what, Canelo Alvarez will continue to sell. But these were not the only sales numbers touted since the event concluded on Saturday.

The other alleged numbers from Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga

The Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga fight, held during the Mexican Independence Day weekend, was rumored to have delivered even more impressive pay-per-view numbers than the one above. A post from FIGERTHEROFTHEYEAR suggested the bout sold over 750,000 PPVs and generated $22 million in gate revenue. The veracity of these figures is yet to be confirmed.

Canelo, 34, had previously drawn 550,000 PPV buys in his last fight with Jaime Munguia, but Berlanga’s challenge, coupled with the festive atmosphere, led to higher sales. It’s currently unclear which numbers are true and which are just an estimation of the real thing.

That said, these aren’t the official numbers, so take it with a pinch of salt. However, it’s a possibility that the real numbers are pretty close to them. How well do you think the fight did?
