Keyshawn Davis, the 2020 Olympic silver medalist, had his sights set on Jose Pedraza. He was even scheduled to go against the former lightweight champion on December 9. However, a positive drug test and subsequent suspension derailed his plans, leading to an apology to friends and family for his inability to compete.
While expressing regret for the missed opportunity, Davis stands firm and unapologetic regarding his use of marijuana. In a bold statement, he said, “I will not stop doing something that is legal & being sold in America.” Despite this harsh stand, Davis has now quit smoking ahead of his fight against Jose Pedraza on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the Michelob ULTRA Arena at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

For the fight which is being scheduled for the second time, Keyshawn Davis is quite confident about going against Pedraza. Speaking with FightHype.com, he stated that he would be stopping Pedraza early on. He’s adamant that the fight won’t be going the distance against the ‘Sniper’. He then went on to make a remarkable revelation stating that he’s a different man now than before.
Davis said, “So first of all I don’t see this fight go 10 Rounds. Second of all, I stopped smoking.” This shocked the reporter, and he instantly congratulated the boxer on this great feat. Then he asked him more about his journey being a non-smoker and his reason behind making such a decision.
Davis stated, “What made me come to a decision like that was God. God was telling me Keyshawn, you can’t be your full self outside the ring and inside the ring, if you keep doing this. God told me to put it down and I listen to God.”
Now prepared for the impending fight, he faces the prospect of random drug testing with confidence. Recognizing the significance of this juncture in his boxing journey, he anticipates that the forthcoming matchup will yield the fruits of his efforts.

On February 8, Keyshawn Davis and Jose Pedraza will step into the ring in Las Vegas. Headlining the card is the highly anticipated matchup between Teofimo Lopez and Jamaine Ortiz, a clash that promises to be the focal point of the event. Even though this fight won’t be the main attraction that night, the heat between both fighters has gained a lot of traction in the past few days.
Davis said, “This is the type of step-up I need to get to the next level, and I know Pedraza will bring his A-game. It’s his last chance to get back to title contention, but I won’t let that happen.” In response to this, Pedraza has also retorted to his opponent. He said, “He’s never faced a boxer of my caliber, nor has he faced anyone even close to the caliber of my toughest opponents. He wants to continue climbing up the ranks, but on February 8, he’ll be falling off the ladder.”
