During the press conference, Derek, an employee from Betr, directed a disrespectful question toward Diaz. He claimed to be a boxer himself and brazenly asked the Stockton native-  “I am just wondering if you think I could fight your brother, Nick Diaz.” in the boxing ring. The employee then proceeded to say that he is going to beat Nate Diaz’s older brother’s  “f*cking a*s.”

The question’s tone and choice of words left many taken aback, as it displayed a lack of respect and professionalism. Although Derek issued an apology for his behavior at the press conference, he recently revealed that he did it because he feared for his life.

In the episode, Paul and Derek can be seen training with UFC middleweight contender Bo Nikal. The reporter would then reveal that he was pretty scared after Diaz told him to look out. Moreover, when asked how he would have responded if they decided to run up on him, he revealed that he was planning to hide behind Paul’s security.

I was terrified when I was sitting there and I looked over and I saw them all staring at me and I’m not gonna lie I was worried for my life. I had plans to run uh behind Jake’s security,” he said.

Although at the time, he was worried for his life, he would end up issuing an apology video where he ironically doubled down on his previous remarks, calling for a fight against Nick Diaz and issuing an ultimatum to popular rap artist Drake. Moreover, he even went on to complain to Paul about not defending him during the conference.

In the episode, the employee was also a little disappointed as his boss did not back him. He complained that Paul never said a word in his favor and instead threatened to fire him.

You did not defend me up on the podium at all, you literally told me to shut up. You told me you were gonna fire me, so the reports came out saying that I was fired,” said Derek.
