On 30 September, Canelo Alvarez took down Jermell Charlo in a dominant show of performance. Even before the fight started, fans had labeled Charlo an underdog, as he had to climb up multiple weight divisions. However, Charlo’s lackluster performance took many by surprise, attracting waves of criticism. It has been some time since then, yet critiques continue to pour in. Recently, Rolando Romero shared his candid thoughts about that fateful night with Canelo and Charlo. 

Charlo, however, wasn’t the only boxer Rolando ‘Rollie’ Romero spoke about. Terence Crawford is the first male boxer to obtain the status of undisputed champion in two weight divisions in the four-belt era. But that did not satiate his thirst for greatness, as he expressed his desire to take on the mighty Saul Canelo Alvarez. However, Romero had something to say about Crawford’s desire to do the same. So, while appearing in a recent interview with ES News, Romero let his words fly.

Rolando Romero claims Jermell Charlo knew what was going to happen

While on the topic of how Crawford would perform against Canelo, someone suggested Crawford would do better than Charlo. However, Romero did not agree; instead, he claimed Crawford would do even worse. “I don’t think he [Crawford] does better than Charlo. I think he does worse,” Romero told ES News. 

Romero went on to claim that Charlo was aware of what would happen if he faced Canelo in the ring. “Charlo knew that he was going to get his a** beat, moved around, and all that stuff,” said Romero. Justifying his assertion about Charlo, Romero stated, “You don’t just move up two weight divisions and fight the biggest name in boxing.” He then suggested the same thing would happen if Crawford got in the ring with Canelo.

Terence Crawford’s last fight was against Errol Spence Jr. Just like Canelo, ‘Bud’ took down Spence in dominant fashion. After his fight against Crawford, Spence quickly activated the rematch clause in their contract. With that said, in a recent interview with Fight Hype, Romero’s trainer, Cromwell Gordon, explained what would have happened if Romero swapped places with Crawford that night.

At one point, Romero had pursued a fight against Spence despite the size difference. While chances of the fight ever happening were slim to none. That did not stop Cromwell from imagining what would have happened if Romero faced Spence. “Imagine if Rolly would’ve fought that version of Spence? He would’ve got him. Anybody fought that version, they would’ve got him,” Cromwell told Fight Hype.

Weeks after the fight between Charlo and Canelo concluded, with Canelo emerging victorious, criticism of Charlo has not stopped. Interestingly, Romero believes the same would be Crawford’s fate if he fights Canelo. But the burning question is – what do you think would happen if Crawford faced Canelo?
