“You Know, I Only Got $13”: Gone Through Gambling Problems in the Past, Adrien Broner Reacts to Owning $50 Accusations

He still remains an enigma. It’s been fifteen years since Adrien Broner debuted in the ring. However, when it comes to him, it is as much about the four world titles that he won across divisions as it is about the news he generates outside the ring. After an absence of more than two years, the Cincinnati-born boxer returned this year. The fans were finally getting ready to celebrate his return. However, sporadic updates about Broner’s battles with staying sober and keeping clear of gambling have kept them on tenterhooks.

On June 9, at Casino Miami Jai Alai in Miami, Florida, he fought a ten-round battle with Bill Hutchinson. Broner won unanimously. Now he awaits the second fight of the year. Scheduled for December 2, Broner will fight Tennessean Chris Howard at Casino Miami Jai Alai once again. Fans continue to keep an eye out for Broner. But as often, it is not because of anything he does inside the ring. In the latest, the comments he shared over the Instagram story might have grabbed the attention of many. In so far as it is about the amount that he owes someone, it is also about how much Broner claims he currently has in his pocket.

Seemingly, @thrillboxing wrote, “This [is] the version of AB that still [owes] me $50 from the studio back in the day… He [thinks] I forgot.” Adrien Broner posted a response through the Instagram story. He said, “Yeah, you know I only got $13.” Interestingly, just a day before, he posted a clip of him and friends putting money alongside a bunch of friends. He wrote, “This was a hell of a night [of] gambling with some of my good Dayton ni**a.”

For sure, both comments must have startled many fans. It still remains unclear in what context Broner runs up the $50 debt. What does he imply, more significantly, by saying that he has only $13 on him?

‘AB’ between an uphill climb and a ticking clock

Back in the ring, it is increasingly becoming clear that time is not on Adrien Broner’s side, no matter how eager he might be for the forthcoming fight. The four-time world champion was left devastated by the loss of his trainer, coach, and father figure, Mike Stafford. In between, he sounded a bugle to longtime friend Floyd Mayweather Jr. for a big exhibition bout. He has taken two two-year breaks from his career in the last five years. Thus, if Broner is serious about making it into the major league, he will have to be consistent and gradually work his way up to the point where he could attract a few big matches.
