WBC heavyweight champion Claressa Shields has become a subject of mockery after her silly mistake on social media. You see, the Flint, Michigan native often shares her thoughts on social media, but this time, her post regarding Michael Irvin and Allen Iverson seems to have made her the butt of ridicule.

Not that long ago, sports commentator and former NFL wide receiver Michael Irvin shared an image on X with former shooting guard and NBA great Allen Iverson. As it turns out, the ‘GWOAT’ Shields is a huge fan of the football-basketball Hall of Famers, meaning she had to share her desire to meet them in person known through the platform. But she made a small blunder with the spelling of one of their names.

It’s Michael Irvin, not Michael Erving!

After ‘The Playmaker’ shared the picture on X with Iverson, Shields, fresh off a second-round technical knockout win over Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse in July, responded the next day with, “I gotta meet Michael Erving & need my pic with Ai [Allen Iverson]!” However, it didn’t take long for fans to notice the error in her message.

Michael Irvin, a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Dallas Cowboys, and Allen Iverson, an 11-time NBA All-Star and the 1997 NBA Rookie of the Year, are both sports legends with massive followings across the country. As one would guess, at this point, Shields’ slip-up didn’t go unnoticed, and fans quickly corrected her on social media.

Claressa Shields asked to get the name right first

People on the internet can be unforgiving, something Claressa Shields knows quite well, yet she might not have expected such responses. Take this user, for example, who called out Shields for the mistake immediately. The user wrote, “Gwoat, that man last name is Irving. With a I. You off that drank tonight?” Hilariously, however, even the user was wrong about the spelling, as there’s no ‘g’ at the end of Irvin’s name.

Another user suggested what Shields needs to do before she gets her wish to meet the legend granted. “You gotta get his name right first,” the user commented. Imagine missing out on meeting your idol because you spelled their name wrong.

Meanwhile, this user didn’t hold back his punches, criticizing Sheilds while branding her a fool. “Michael Erving? Your A SUPER Idiot !!” wrote the user. This might just force Shields to double-check her tweets from now on.

Seeing the error, the next user sarcastically questioned who Sheilds was talking about. The user remarked, “Wait whoooo???🤣” While the error might be embarrassing, it was always clear Sheilds was talking about Michael Irvin, especially since a picture of the man was right there.

Besides Shields’ blunder, a few people in the comments kept adding ‘g’ to Irvin’s name, so this user corrected all of them. The user wrote, “Irvin u f**kin idiots.” This just goes to show that it was not just Shields who made the mistake in her tweets.

It appears that Claressa Shields, trying to show her love for the sports legends, turned into a hilarious spectacle for the fans to have a good laugh. Also, it’s unlikely Michael Irvin himself would have taken offense to the error. Regardless, can you spell his name in the comments without looking?
