Boxing is a sport that accepts fighters regardless of their background or where they came from. However, that’s not the case for boxing fans! In a recent twist, Bill Haney, father of undefeated boxer Devin Haney, turned to social media to make a statement that garnered mockery from the boxing community.

The update comes amid fight negotiations between Haney and his undefeated counterpart Gervonta Davis. The pair were recently offered an irresistible deal by Turki Alalshaikh to fight in Saudi Arabia. While ‘The Dream’ Haney is ready for the challenge, ‘Tank’ doesn’t seem as eager. However, Bill’s tweet on X today diverted all the attention from his son to him.

Bill Haney claims he was raised on the “streets”

For reasons yet unknown, Bill asserted that he grew up on the “streets” and had never encountered anyone who chose to remain there. “I was raised in the streets, and I never met a hustler or real player that wanted to stay in the streets,” wrote Haney. It’s worth mentioning that Bill recently made the headlines for calling out the coaches of his son’s opponents.

He claimed Willie Moses and Calvin Ford were afraid of pitting Davis and Shakur Stevenson in a fight against his son, which saw positive responses from the fans. However, that’s not the case with Bill’s latest tweet, as fans didn’t hold back from poking fun and mocking Devin’s father.

Fans bring up the incident with Bernard Hopkins

Reacting to the tweet, some people questioned the validity of Bill’s tweet, while others claimed Bill wouldn’t have let Bernard Hopkins treat him badly. It’s worth mentioning that during a boxing event not so long ago, Hopkins had pushed Bill after asking him to meet the former in the washroom.

One user brought up the Hopkins incident, claiming Haney could not have been from the streets since he let Hopkins treat him in that manner. Notably, at that point in time, Ryan Garcia from Hopkins’ Golden Boy Promotions had canceled a fight with Devin, and Bill was speaking about the same matter when the incident occurred.

Another user implied Bill was lying, questioning the validity of Haney’s statement! While there has been much said about the father and son duo, not much is available on Bill’s past.

Someone else suggested what Bill wrote in his tweet was true – but implied Bill lies too much.

The next user echoed the Hopkins incident again, asserting Bill could not have been from the streets since Hopkins “punked” him.

One user laughed at the notion of Bill being from the streets, suggesting Bill was lying in the tweet. It’s worth noting that only the people near and dear to Bill can prove the validity of the statement, and the user’s comment is a personal view.
