During his prime reign over the heavyweight roster, Deontay Wilder had accused Anthony Joshua of ducking a fight against him several times. Joshua also blamed Wilder for doing the same and cited umpteen reasons for failing to set up the matchup.
Now, Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder are on different rides. They are far away from locking horns against each other. Joshua will defend his unified world titles against Kubrat Pulev in December; Wilder is still to be booked for an in-ring return.
After failing to settle the trilogy fight against Tyson Fury, Wilder has come up with many justifications to validate his maiden professional defeat. That said, none of his statements have been credible. The entire boxing community is currently bashing ‘The Bronze Bomber’ for his excuses. Meanwhile, Matchroom official Eddie Hearn has also shed light on Wilder’s accusations over Joshua from the past.

Hearn wasn’t too harsh on ‘The Bronze Bomber’. However, he dealt the former champion a blow and accused him of lying to the fans.
Eddie Hearn has some venous words for Deontay Wilder
Speaking with DAZN Boxing, Hearn said, “I think it’s easy to kick a man when he is down. I do think- everything that he has said about us, the things he has said about ‘AJ’. Pardon me, and I have given it to him in a few interviews. Pardon me once again, you know, giving him a little bit back. He might be uncomfortable with us. I felt that him and his team lied about me and AJ over a period of time but right now.”

He added, “2016-17 when AJ was winning the world heavyweight championships, unifying against Wladimir Klitschko, unifying against Joseph Parker. It really started after the Parker and around the Povetkin fight… But we tried and tried and tried, almost to the point where I would fly to America and I would be calling Shelly Finkel, asking him for a meeting in New York to discuss the fight and they wouldn’t even entertain the meeting.”
“Then we got an email from Deontay Wilder personally to Anthony Joshua saying I will give you 50 million for a fight. That’s it and then we asked for a contract and they wouldn’t even send it to us and the next day it’s all over the media- Joshua turned down 50 million. So they played a great game and by the way what I think is they raised his profile on the back of Joshua… He is spiraling out of control. Every interview I see is getting worse and worse and worse.”

Wilder needs to return soon to curb his critics. If he remains inactive, the division will change its structure with other A-listers reaching the top spot. During the former champion’s absence, the division has seen several fights happening. Belts have changed shoulders and various other contenders are on the line.
Is Deontay Wilder hampering his own chances at a return to the top?
