Lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson is embroiled in a heated social media battle with boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya. The drama centers around a potential fight between Stevenson and William Zepeda, a rising contender. Remember, De La Hoya publicly called out Stevenson to face Zepeda after Zepeda’s impressive victory in March.

Both fighters seemed interested, but the fight never materialized. Now, Stevenson has a fight scheduled for July 6th, with his opponent yet to be named. But what about Zepeda? And is there any truth to Stevenson’s claims that De La Hoya just used his name for promotion?

Oscar was quick to callout Shakur after Zepeda’s win. He challenged, “He’s ready for anybody. … Shakur, if you’re watching, let’s get it on, let’s go.” Even Zepeda himself said to The Ring, “In a perfect world, I want Shakur next,” after his big win. But nothing has materialized yet. And Shakur Stevenson’s frustration surfaced again, marking not the first time he’s accused Oscar De La Hoya of clout chasing. Stevenson aired his grievances on Twitter, demanding clarity and accusing De La Hoya of leveraging his name without intent to finalize a fight. “Yooo @OscarDeLaHoya I still haven’t heard nothing yet about Zepeda fighting me July 6th how can u say my name over and over and not make the fight happen next was u using me to promote your fighter fight or?”

Stevenson’s tweet, charged with frustration, sought a direct confrontation. Promptly, Oscar De La Hoya responded, indicating a future discussion. “Zepeda is fighting soon for the second time this year, I’ll talk to your promoter third quarter of this year,” he replied. This exchange highlighted the ongoing negotiation drama, stirring more anticipation among fans. De La Hoya’s reply suggested a timeline, yet left the immediate future of the Stevenson-Zepeda matchup in ambiguity.
