Matchroom announced the signing of the WBA world super-featherweight champion on their website and social media. They wrote, “Welcome to the team WBA World Super-Featherweight Champion, Hyun-Mi Choi!” Therefore, they have increased the chances of making the undisputed fight happen at 130 lbs.

Joining the famous promotional company seems to have pleased Hyun-Mi Choi. She said, “I have worked hard and dedicated my life to being the best Champion I can be. I strive to improve every day and work on my craft, I am thankful for my family, friends, and team who have supported me on this Championship journey these past 12 years.”

The champion added, “As I have grown and matured and studied our sport, I still have a yearning desire not just to defend my Title but to achieve my ultimate goal of unifying all of the belts.”

This statement will be heartening to boxing fans who know that an undisputed title fight is in the offing.

The signing has also delighted promoter Eddie Hearn. “We are delighted to welcome Hyun-Mi Choi to the Matchroom Boxing team,” said Hearn. “It is a wonderful time for women’s boxing and particularly the Super-Featherweight division as we target an Undisputed Champion in the weight class.”

So when can we see Hyun-Mi Choi in action?

Hearn gave an update on the situation and said that she will defend her title later this year. A big unification fight will follow in early 2021. She will presumably fight on one of the under-cards of one of the many Matchroom Boxing events that will take place in the next few weeks.

Matchroom Boxing already has Terri Harper in their ranks who holds the WBC and IBO world titles at 130. This will make it much easier for a unification fight provided Harper can get through her fight against Katherine Thanderz. Nonetheless, with women’s boxing on the rise, fans need to keep their eyes peeled on this division.
