Boxing legend, Floyd Mayweather and 7-time Super Bowl winner, Tom Brady have a lot in common. The pair are considered to be two of the best athletes in their respective sports, achieving heights unmatched by their peers. The two also seemingly have a good professional relationship.

However, Mayweather once put Brady in an awkward position after portraying himself to be a close friend of the NFL ‘GOAT’. In an interview with ESPN back in 2017, the former 5-division champ stated that he and Brady were close friends and talked on a regular basis. “That’s a close friend of mine. Tom Brady is a very, very close friend. An unbelievable guy with unbelievable talent…he’s a great guy. Actually, Tom Brady texted me yesterday. We have a cool friendship,’ said Mayweather.

Moreover, ‘Money’ was even spotted face timing with the NFL legend before his bout against Manny Pacquiao back in 2015.

However, Brady didn’t seem to share the same enthusiasm for the friendship as Mayweather when asked about it. During an interview on the Boston radio show “Kirk & Callahan, Brady claimed that although he knew Mayweather they were far from close friends. “No, I met him a couple of times. I think he’s a great fighter. That was a great fight the other night.” said Brady.

Mayweather has had a lot of controversies during his career that have made him notorious in the public eye. Moreover, Brady is one of the most prominent figures in American sports with a public image to be maintained, which could be why he dismissed the topic of the former champ.

After months of being separated from each other, Brady and his wife, Gisele Bundchen, finally announced their divorce. The pair will part ways after 13 years of marriage, releasing statements on their social media announcing the split.

The couple got married in 2009 and currently have two children together. Moreover, the main reason cited for the divorce was Brady’s unwillingness to retire from football and be together with his family. The 7-time champ announced he would be returning next season, which sparked the divorce rumors.
