It’s been nearly a month since the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight wrapped up. However, the incident involving Claressa Shields, her boyfriend Papoose, and a TikTok comedian during the event continues to unravel. In case you didn’t know already, while Crawford was fighting to become a three-division undisputed champion, Shields and Papoose were fighting against disrespect outside the ring.

According to reports, TikTok comedian Gerald Huston approached Shields while she was with Papoose, J Prince, Abdullah Mason, and others—and began repeatedly calling her Serena Williams. “At first, I was like, huh?” Shields said previously. “The way he said it, I knew he knew I wasn’t Serena.” This led to Papoose punching Huston, who is known for calling celebrities by different names for content. Weeks later, the couple shed more light on the incident.

Claressa Shields and Papoose won’t stand for disrespect

The couple appeared on the ‘Million Dollaz Worth Of Game’ podcast, where they revisited the incident. When asked what happened, Papoose said, “He was being disrespectful to Claressa.” The undefeated three-division champion quickly chimed in, revealing Huston’s strange behavior. “He calls everybody a different name,” she explained, as Papoose added, “If he sees a celebrity like you see Holyfield, he’s like, ‘Yo, Mike Tyson.’”

At first, Papoose said he thought “nothing of it.” But when Shields clarified to Huston that she knew that Huston knew she wasn’t Serena Williams, Huston “was persistent [and] … being like extra. So, I tell him like, ‘Yo, don’t do that, man.’” Despite the warning, the TikToker’s response pushed things over the edge. “He told me, ‘I did it already.’ The rest was history,” the rapper said, alluding to the physical altercation that followed.

Shields, meanwhile, recalled being caught off guard. “They had these beautiful magazines, bro. And I had just told Pap to hold mine cuz I ain’t want to carry mine. So he got like four of these big books in his hand. And then before I knew it, the books were on the floor,” she said. The rapper later revealed that this wasn’t Huston’s first stunt in attempts to go viral.  “I seen other video,” he said during the podcast

“I didn’t know who he was at the time, but I seen videos where it happened and when somebody be like, ‘Yo, chill. He get the n—a get like disrespectful.’” Interestingly, in the aftermath of the incident, Huston joked, “You play silly games, you win silly prizes.” He has reportedly pulled similar pranks on celebrities like Latto, whom he called ‘Cardi B,’ and Kevin Gates, whom he called ‘Lil Boosie.’
