UFC commentator Joe Rogan on his podcast ‘The Joe Rogan Experience’ was astonished by the unheard truths about the famous Tyson vs. Holyfield fight. In the podcast when guest and comedian Brian Simpson revealed the experience when Mike Tyson overturned the best boxer, Evander Holyfield in their rematch in 1997.

Joe Rogan expressed how he was excited and the fight was worth the wait. The rematch had one of the most interesting events, which troubled ‘Iron Mike’ later, and for that, it was declared as the ‘Fight of the year’ by the ring magazine. In the podcast, Rogan and Simpson cherished the everlasting experience of that night.

What happened in Mike Tyson vs. Evander Holyfield 2?

Holyfield in his prime looked unstoppable. At the time, it was significant for Tyson to beat Holyfield, to cement his legacy as the greatest heavyweight boxer. But for various reasons, the bout was not happening. When the bout was teased in 1990, the opportunity slipped, following Tyson’s loss to Buster Douglas. When the duo agreed to face off in the ring, the bout slipped once again, since Tyson was convicted in a rape case which halted the fight indefinitely.

The two heavyweight giants finally met in the ring on November 9, 1996. Holyfield emerged as the victor via TKO in the 11th round. The duo promised to face off for a rematch on May 3, 1997. But the bout got postponed due to an eye injury Tyson suffered at the time. Tyson and Holyfield met for a second time on June 28, 1997.

Boxing Legend Mike Tyson Reveals Why He Always Wore Black

Both Joe Rogan and Brian Simpson watched that fight live and recalled their memories down the lane. While describing the fight, Rogan said, “Mike Tyson, that’s right. Dude, I watch that fight with Kavin James. We couldn’t believe our eyes. We couldn’t believe our eyes, we were in, I rented a house, and then, no, we’re watching it live on pay-per-view, It was crazy function, especially the second one.”

Simpson also agreed with him and he praised and revived his childhood memories, “In my mind growing up Tyson was the first person, that like truly invincible. I truly believe, when I was a kid, nobody could beat him”. Simpson continued, “You know, what also blew my mind. It was the first time. Cause People just hated him, Just because he wants someone just people were like f*ck that guy”

At the time, Tyson was perceived as a ‘monster’ due to his aggressive behavior, both inside and outside the ring. Their second meeting made news for all the wrong reasons. There was a very interesting but notorious incident that took place, that titled the fight ‘The Bite Fight’.

The Bite Fight

Tyson vs Holyfield 2 was one of the oddest fights in history, where besides fists, Tyson also “relied” on his bite force. Mike Tyson walked in as everyone’s favorite. Tyson had complained about Holyfield giving multiple headbutts in the previous fight. When the same issue occurred in their second bout, Tyson got furious and bit Holyfield’s ear. Holyfield won the bout via disqualification, and Tyson was also slammed with a hefty fine of $3 million.

Tyson vs Holyfield has remained as one of the highly talked about bouts in the history of boxing. Despite the nasty event taking place, surely it will be in the memory of fans forever.
