Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather competed in one of the biggest boxing extravaganzas of the last decade. UFC President Dana White shocked the world when he agreed to make this crossover fight between a contracted UFC fighter and the legendary world champion pugilist. However, recently, he revealed his true feelings towards the bout.

During an interview with Robbie Fox, the UFC President shared he didn’t plan to make what became his highest-selling PPV fight as a promoter.

When Fox asked White whether he considers fans’ opinions before giving out the performance bonuses; White said, “Well, we do. We definitely listen. Eric, who does my social media, comes to me several times. Let me know what the fans are saying and what’s going on, and we’re trending here; We’re trending there. We’re on top of the social media thing all night long, during a fight.”

While talking about fans’ opinions contributing to matchmaking, White dropped a bombshell as he said, “There were fights that don’t make sense, like the ‘Conor McGregor title fight’. If fans want it bad enough… Conor probably shouldn’t have boxed Floyd Mayweather either.”

Thus, according to White, the epic showdown on August 26, 2017, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas happened because of the fans. Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather did around 4.3 million domestic PPV buys.

Though Dana White has suggested that he listens to the fans, it has not been the case for other fighters. The UFC President has denied other fighters of the same opportunity that he let ‘The Notorious‘ pursue.

Conor McGregor got the permission Georges St-Pierre didn’t

Many MMA fans consider Georges St-Pierre as the greatest MMA fighter. Thus, the fans love to see him perform. However, the UFC President robbed the fans of the opportunity to watch ‘Rush’ compete inside a boxing ring.

Last year, ‘Rush‘, in an interview with Ariel Helwani, revealed that Dana White was the roadblock to his potential fight against multi-time boxing world champion Oscar De La Hoya.

As Dana White claims that he listens to the fans, this fight should’ve been made. It should have been easier considering that the former UFC dual champion had retired from the UFC. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.
