“I Think Canelo Is the Number One”- Khabib Nurmagomedov Touts Canelo Alvarez as the Greatest Boxer Alive

UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov is currently busy building his MMA promotion Eagle Fighting Championship in North America. The former lightweight champion hung up his gloves last year in October after his successful title defense against Justin Gaethje in UFC 254. This was his 29th straight MMA win, which cements his place as a lightweight GOAT. However, he appreciates other sports as well, and he just declared Canelo Alvarez as his pick for the greatest boxer alive.
In a recent interview with CNN Espanol, ‘The Eagle’ discussed many topics revolving around combat sports. During the interview, the host questioned him about boxing and what he feels is the future of boxing.

He gave his opinion on boxing and declared Canelo Alvarez as the best boxer of recent times, “Many boxers earn a lot of money, I mean, they go around the world, offering shows, but now, like Joshua, Fury, Usyk, Lomachenko and of course Canelo and many other big names in boxing, On Canelo, I think, truly, that he is the best boxer pound for pound in the world today. Maybe close to him are Usyk and Tyson Fury, but I think Canelo is the number one.”
He then compared his sport MMA to boxing and admitted that boxing has been around longer than MMA.

“I don’t think boxing has stopped, because boxing was around long before MMA. How many years has it been? 120? 150? Boxing is one of the oldest sports in the world,” he said.

The Russian ‘Eagle’ is all set to launch his MMA promotion in the United States. Nurmagomedov took on the mantle of a promoter after retiring from professional MMA. His promotion -Eagle FC is well set up in Russia. However, ‘The Eagle’ has global aspirations.

The Dagestani-born has already signed outed UFC star Kevin Lee with his promotion. Along with UFC Hall of Famer Rashad Evans. Eagle FC’s first North American event, Eagle FC 44, will take place at FLX arena in Miami, Florida. The main event for the event will be Tyrone Spong versus Russian veteran Sergei Kharitonov.
