Even at the age of 45, Floyd Mayweather proved that he could still compete at a high level after his victory over Mikuru Asakura in their exhibition bout. This was Money’s 4th exhibition bout since retiring from the sport back in 2017. It might look like Mayweather has reached the tail end of his boxing journey, now only competing in exhibition matches.
However, this might be for the best, as the former 5-division champ is past his prime. Mayweather also revealed the reason why he would rather fight against YouTubers or MMA fighters than professional boxers. In the post-fight press conference after his victory over Asakura, Mayweather was asked if he would consider facing his rival, Manny Pacquiao again.

Floyd Mayweather reveals why he wants to compete in exhibition bouts
He stated that he wasn’t interested in taking fights that could physically injure him at this stage, but wanted to have fun. “I’m not going to go in there with no former fighters, former world champions, putting more abuse on my body. I retired for a reason. I’m here to have fun and enjoy myself.” he said.

“I’m not going to take punishment to the point to where I can barely walk or barely talk. Manny had a great career, but boxing retired Manny, Manny didn’t retire from boxing. There’s a difference. At this particular time, I love fighting guys that are 15-0, 8-0 – guys that are older like myself, or YouTubers or MMA guys,” he added.
Mayweather is now set to compete in another exhibition bout against British YouTuber Deji in Dubai. The bout was confirmed following his victory over Asakura. Moreover, he also revealed that there were ongoing talks about a bout against McGregor in 2023, which might be huge for both, considering the financial success of their first fight.
