It was all Islam Makhachev vs Alexander Volkanovski, on Saturday night! UFC lightweight champ Islam Makhachev successfully defended his title for the first time against the Aussie, in what seemed like his toughest fight at UFC 284. Fans are divided following the outcome of the bout, with some believing Volkanovski deserved to win the decision and some appreciating the Dagestani brute force displayed by Makhachev. Meanwhile, famous boxing personalities, George Kambosos Jr, Devin Haney, and Logan Paul among many others, cannot keep calm over the joyful victory on Saturday night for the Russian. 

Islam Makhachev, stepped into the fight as the betting favorite against the Featherweight champ. Makhachev managed to take home the number 1 pound-for-pound spot after defeating ‘The Great’ via unanimous decision. The judges scored the contest 48-47, 48-47, and 49-46. Logan Paul shared a victory dance along with KSI, while Kambosos penned down a long message for the fight. Boxing’s lightweight king, Haney, shared an image of the UFC star to congratulate Makhachev on his hard-fought win.

Without a doubt, Islam Makhachev is one of the best fighters to ever grace the octagon. Not only that, he had the supervision of the legend Khabib Nurmagodemov. On Saturday night, all eyes were set on Makhachev. Fans were thrilled due to the lead-up to the fight, and both athletes had an intense yet classy face-off. 

On the other hand, Alexander Volkanovski was no short of Makhachev. He is the Featherweight champion and was trying to move up to the Lightweight division, and defeating Makhachev, was his only option.

However, Makhachev had the whole responsibility on his hand to defend the title, and on UFC 284 he met the expectations of the fans. Following the win, Makhachev said in the Octagon interview, “Thank you Alex. It was a very good fight.” He also praised Volkanovski by saying, “I need some tough fights. I have to improve, I think he’s going to be easy on the ground but this guy improved a lot. I need tough fights.”

Following the event, Haney applauded the winner on his Instagram story. Meanwhile, Logan Paul and KSI took it to Twitter to express their excitement for the fight.

Lightweight boxing champion reacts to Lightweight UFC champion

Although it is always an ongoing debate between Boxing vs. MMA, today, Devin Haney, the lightweight champion reacted to the victory by sharing an image of the Makhachev. He posted the image with the caption, “Alhamdulillah, Lightweight champion”.  Although controversial influencer, Logan Paul is in the backlash for the CryptoZoo NFT scam, he was seen enjoying the bout along with KSI. He wrote, “WHAT A FIGHT #UFC284″

George Kambosos wrote, “How did everyone have it? I don’t know exactly how UFC rounds are scored, close fight but I thought Volk did enough. Either way great fight from both warriors and another great event downunder.”
