The mixed martial arts community loves Nate Diaz. He is one of the few fighters on the UFC roster that fans truly respect. Even when he was trailing behind on the scorecards against Leon Edwards at UFC 263, it was amazing to see fans cheer on for the co-creator of the ‘Stockton Slap’.

The MMA world already loves and respects Nate Diaz; however, it seems the boxing community is now also starting to incline towards Conor McGregor’s old opponent.

Last weekend, Mikey Garcia finally returned to the ring. After fighting Sandor Martin for 10 rounds, the Spaniard caused one of the biggest upsets in the contemporary boxing landscape with a majority decision win.

Nate Diaz was in attendance at the event to support his teammate Luciano Ramos, who lost to Charlie Sheehy on the undercard. After the main event, Diaz walked into Mikey Garcia’s locker room to check on him as well.

In a later interview with ESNews, Garcia shared his thoughts on the UFC superstar –

I met him a few years ago in Vegas, it was like a post-fight party, like a meet and greet in one of the clubs. He came over and said what’s up, so that was when I first met him. Then he came over to the fight, so that was pretty cool, you know, came over and said what’s up. He’s probably one of the best, most recognized MMA fighters, he’s up there man.

Tremendous fights, probably one of the most exciting fighters in the MMA world, so that was pretty cool to have him come up and say what’s up,” said Mikey Garcia.

Mikey Garcia respects Nate Diaz for meeting him in the locker room

Muhammad Ali’s coach, Angelo Dundee, very rightly once said – “Notice who is in the locker room after you lose, not after you win”. And, Mikey Garcia felt that on the night of his loss against Sandor Martin.

As soon as Martin had his hand raised, many in the boxing community started criticizing Garcia online right away. Amidst all of this online ruckus, UFC superstar Nate Diaz, who was in attendance, went into Garcia’s locker room. It became clear through their interaction that they both have immense respect for each other.

In his recent interview with Ellie Seckbach, Mikey Garcia suggested that he respects Nate Diaz for meeting him despite his loss. He also thanked all those who reached out to check on him post-fight.

While he is thankful, the 33-year-old believes he’ll bounce back much stronger and that he is coping with the loss just fine.

You know I’ve heard of others after they take a loss, there’s no one picking them up, it’s pretty sad. But I’ve actually been getting a lot of messages, a lot of people hit me up.

“Obviously, close friends hit me up right away but I’ve also had messages from, you know, the celebrity world, that know me, have hit me up and said what’s up just to see how I’m doing.

“It’s just, look, I’m fine, no problems, I appreciate it, thank you for the words but I’m not done, I’m not beating myself up, not crying myself to sleep, I’m fine, I’m just going to be fine,” said Mikey Garcia.

Do you think Mikey Garcia can bounce back stronger?
