Former UFC double champion Conor McGregor has always been a student of martial arts and all its forms. This also includes boxing which McGregor has great admiration for even competing in a professional match against one of the best boxers in Floyd Mayweather. Moreover, he proved his sincerity to the sweet science after sharing a video of none other than Mike Tyson during one of his training routines which left ‘The Notorious One’ in awe of the boxing legend.

He also had some words for ‘Iron Mike’ who McGregor considers to be one of the greatest boxers to ever step foot in the ring. That is quite a compliment coming from one of UFC’s greatest knockout artists.

The former UFC champion took to Instagram and shared one of Tyson’s old training videos on his story. Moreover, he also has some words to praise the boxing legend. “One of the True Greats,” he wrote along with the video.

In the clip, Tyson can be seen dodging punches while working on his footwork and head movement. However, ‘Iron Mike’ is not wearing any headgear in this video and relies only on his head movement to dodge punches. The video also gives us an insight into the fighting style of Tyson who used his explosiveness to cover distance due to his shorter frame.

Even after years, Tyson’s fighting style still hasn’t been replicated by any other boxer after him. This might be the reason why McGregor holds him in such high regard. ‘Iron Mike’ on the other hand has also been an advisor to McGregor, having some suggestions about who he should face after returning to the Octagon, showing his interest in the Irishman’s career.

McGregor details the time he met Tyson in Ireland

Back in 2018, when Tyson was set to appear at an event in The Helix, McGregor didn’t waste any time to meet him. Moreover, in an Instagram post, he also shared some of the experiences he had with the former heavyweight champion. Although he stated that there was some animosity between them, he was happy to put it to bed.

This was not all, as he also shared a photo of Tyson at the hotel as a gift from him. ‘The Notorious’ certainly has a lot of love for Tyson and is not afraid to publicly showcase it. However, with the two having similar and fiery personalities, this bond shouldn’t be a surprising one.
