The name Floyd Mayweather Jr. is synonymous with the sport of boxing. In fact, the Mayweather clan’s legacy and contributions to boxing are far too big to be ignored. However, Bellator MMA fighter Usman Nurmagomedov recently claimed that the Nurmagomedov legacy in MMA is superior to the Mayweather legacy in boxing.

Nurmagomedov is keeping his family’s legacy in combat sports alive akin to his legendary cousin, Khabib Nurmagomedov. Other notable fighters from the family are UFC stars Abubakar Nurmagomedov and Umar Nurmagomedov.

On the other hand, Mayweather Jr. is a second-generation fighter from his family. His father Floyd Mayweather Sr. and uncles Roger Mayweather and Jeff Mayweather were formidable behemoths in the 1980s. However, it is worth noting that it was Mayweather Jr. who raised the family name to the pedestals of the sport with his iconic performances.

What does Usman Nurmagomedov have to say about the Floyd Mayweather legacy?

Usman Nurmagomedov was in an interview with Insider. In conversation, he detailed how his family has contributed to the sport. Talking about the Nurmagomedov clan, he said, “I believe we’re even better than the Mayweathers.”

Moreover, he further added, “We’ve got a better record and I believe the caliber of me and [my family members] is higher than the Mayweathers.”

However, he added that he understands why such comparisons are not made. But it is worth noting that Khabib Nurmagomedov, Abubakar Nurmagomedov, and Umar Nurmagomedov have 6o wins in total. Meanwhile, Mayweather Jr. singlehandedly has 50 wins, while Mayweather Sr. and Roger Mayweather have 28 and 59 wins respectively.

‘Money’ Mayweather’s highest fight earnings

Mayweather Jr’s legacy is not limited to his spectacular performances inside the ring. The sport has also made him one of the highest-paid athletes of all time. In fact, he made over half a million from two fights alone.

Mayweather faced Conor McGregor at the T-Mobile Arena, Paradise, Nevada on August 26, 2017. Moreover, he emerged the victor via 10-round TKO.

It was reported that he earned a whopping USD 275 million for the fight.

Mayweather faced Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Paradise, Nevada on May 2, 2015. And, in victory, he retained his WBA (Unified), WBC, and The Ring welterweight titles. Additionally, he also won the WBO welterweight title.
