Combat sports are among the most unpredictable sports in the world. From upsets to iconic triumphs, the most formidable and experienced fighters can sometimes get defeated by a young athlete or vice versa. MMA icon Ronda Rousey was an unstoppable force in her prime. However, she received her first defeat at the hands of another destructible fighter, Holly Holm.

Just as fans had a notion that Rousey was unstoppable, she lost to Holm. Similarly, even Holm was once brutally knocked out by an opponent. The above video is from a fight dating back to December 2011 when Holm was fighting French boxer, Anne Sophie Mathis.

The bout took place at Route 66 Casino, Albuquerque, New Mexico. It can be seen that Holm is severely damaged from the flurry of punches landed by her opponent. The strong attack disabled Holm as she was dangling on the ropes. She lost the fight that is regarded as one of the most brutal knockouts in women’s boxing history. 

When Ronda Rousey tasted the first defeat of her career 

It would be safe to say that Rousey is a figure who in a way pioneered the popularity of women’s MMA. Fighters then and now have looked up to her and she will surely go down as one of the most successful MMA fighters in history. That being said, November 14th, 2015, was a day that witnessed one of the biggest upsets in women’s MMA. 

Rousey fought Holly Holm at the Marvel Stadium in Australia. The former was a big fan favorite and was already proclaimed the winner even before the fight. However, Holm came like a storm and knocked out Rousey with a perfectly placed head kick.

Ronda Rousey hides her face in front of the media following her defeat 

Following her loss to Holm, just a day after the fight, ‘Rowdy’ was seen at the Los Angeles International Airport. But the superstar was trying to hide her face through a purple pillow and was also wearing a hoodie.

Furthermore, her partner Travis Brown was also present with her. Both of them quickly moved to their car and departed the airport without answering the paparazzi’s questions. We certainly cannot tell if she was hiding her scars from the fight or if she was emotionally not ready to face media yet.
