However, it seems The Maverick might be disappointed at another rising prospect in MMA, Khamzat Chimaev. In an appearance on UFC Bantamweight contender, Sean O’Malley’s podcast, Paul detailed how the Stockholm native did not live up to his hype against former title challenger Gilbert Burns. “I thought he would f**k up Gilbert Burns more” said Paul.

However, O’Malley stated that Burns was a huge step up in completion for Chimaev compared to his previous opponents. He also added that Chimaev showed his toughness by going the distance against ‘Durinho’. ” Bro Gilbert Burns is up there with the top of the top. Like that mother***er his Jiu Jitsu insane. He’s got pretty confident for him to go to war with Gilbert like that, proves how good he really is.” said O Malley.

Despite this, Paul claimed that in his fights before Burns, Chimaev appeared like a fighter who was unbeatable. However, Burns humbled him and forced him to go all out in their fight. “He appeared as if a guy who was gonna walk through everyone and you saw him get humbled a little bit that was the time. He was like holy s**t I’m in a f****g war and it’s interesting to see men and women have that flip switch when they are faced with a real f***king tribulation,” said Paul.
