Former WBC champion Deontay Wilder has achieved great heights in boxing. His 6-foot-8-inch frame, combined with his incredible knockout power, makes him a threat to any opponent in the heavyweight division. Moreover, he has suffered a loss to only one man in his career that is Tyson Fury.

Although The Bronze Bomber might be among the best heavyweights today, it could be argued that in terms of legacy he still lacks far behind the like of Muhammad Ali. However, UFC welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal doesn’t seem to agree with this notion. The former UFC title challenger made a bold claim after he took to social media and stated that Wilder is the greatest American heavyweight since Ali. Masvidal uploaded a video on his Facebook page showing highlights of Wilder as he compared him to the boxing legend.

Fans react to Jorge Masvidal comparing Deontay Wilder to Muhammad Ali

One fan stated that it was pointless to compare Ali with other boxers because he was the one who made the sport what it is. He added that although there might be ‘better’ boxers than Ali through the years, none of them had the impact on the sport as the legendary heavyweight.”Don’t be comparing Ali to other boxers. It’s pointless. They are because of him. The World hadn’t seen boxers like him at the time. He was a sensation. Today’s boxers are who they are because of Ali. Sure there’s been ‘ better boxers since’. Of course. They built on his style. The Greatest of all time doesn’t mean the best. Boxing today is because of Ali. The Greatest,” he wrote.

Another fan urged Masvidal to not make such claims and gave the example of another great heavyweight. “Stop the madness. Holyfield” he wrote.

Moreover, one fan claimed that this compassion is not correct, as Wilder has a ‘glass jaw’ and no conditioning. “No, he’s not. He has a glass jaw can’t take a punch and no endurance.” He wrote.

One fan called the whole era of modern boxing a joke, also taking shots at Wilder’s controversial entrance against Tyson Fury. “FFS just when you think the barrel of stupid posts have been properly scraped, then one comes across a gem like this….Modern day boxing is a joke, a bunch of premadonnas worried about clown costumes and ridiculous entrances.” He wrote.

Lastly, one fan hilariously stated that Masvidal might be under the influence after making such a comparison. “Now I know your are smoking cr*ck, you talk nonsense,” he wrote.

The fans certainly do not agree with Masvidal on this comparison and were not shy about calling him out. However, this does not dismiss Wilder’s achievements in the ring.
