It seems like everybody wants to fight Teofimo Lopez. The 25-year-old was able to strip Josh Taylor of his light-welterweight championship title to become the new champion. And, with this fight, he was able to redeem himself from the ones who questioned his performance and skills. But, at the same time, his victory has given rise to many boxing personalities calling out Lopez for a potential fight. Lopez’s fight with Taylor caught the attention of various significant personalities in the boxing world, who came forward to congratulate the new champion. But, amidst all the congratulatory messages, there were some calling ‘The Takeover’ out for a showdown.

Lopez made it clear after the fight that he is considering retirement from the sport. And follow the footsteps of former UFC champion Amanda Nunes, who announced her retirement recently. Lopez claimed he wants to spend more time with his family. But it seems like that won’t be easy for the champion, as Bill Haney made it clear that he wants a potential fight between his son and Lopez. However, Haney isn’t the only one interested in fighting Lopez, former unified light welterweight champion, Jose Ramirez also showed his interest in fighting the newly crowned champ.

New challengers knocking on Teofimo Lopez’s door

After the fight, Bill Haney gave an interview to Boxing News+ and talked about a potential title fight between Devin Haney and Lopez. He said, “I believe that he’s at the top of the 140 lb division by beating Josh. But, you know, that’s an ultimate grudge match. And we would have wanted to fight him regardless if he had won. But it’s good that he won, so let’s get it on.”

It seems like the Lopez fight is one which the Haneys are excited about. However, this is not the only call out for the 25-year-old as the former unified light welterweight champion Jose Ramirez is certain that he can bring a challenge for Lopez. In an interview, Ramirez made bold claims about a potential fight with Lopez.

Ramirez claimed that he is not the same ‘Ramirez’ from 2021. And claimed that he is in a better physical and mental position than before. ‘Jaguar’ said, “I got that smart pressure. I feel like I could give Teofimo lots of problems. It would be a great fight, I can see myself hurting Teofimo.” With top boxers lining up to fight Lopez next, the 25-year-old may have hinted at retirement.

What’s next for Teofimo Lopez? Retirement?

After his fight with Taylor, Lopez made it clear that he is considering retirement from the sport. And claimed that he wants to take some time off for himself. When asked what’s next for him, he responded, “I’ll maybe retire.” As shocking as this news was for the fans at the time, he further clarified that he’d think about it. This certainly gives hope to all of Teo’s fans that are waiting to see him in the ring again.
