For decades, the legendary wrestler Hulk Hogan entertained his fans worldwide. Although he started professional wrestling in the year 1977, he achieved global fame and recognition after he signed with the World Wrestling Federation/WWF (now called World Wrestling Entertainment or WWE). During his decades long career in WWF and WWE, Hogan presented his fans with several unforgettable moments in the history of television and sport. To name one, one can’t help but think of Hulk Hogan vs. Andre the Giant on February 5, 1988.

With his success in the WWE, Hogan became a popular personality on American Television, and even occasionally, made his appearances on the big screen. In the 1982 blockbuster Rocky III, Hogan was seen squaring off with Sylvester Stallone – the excellence of Thunderlips! However, even with a success in professional space, there was a time for Hogan when he felt depressed and even considered taking his life.

At the time Hogan was working with Laila Ali, world champion boxer and the beloved daughter of ‘The Greatest’. The two worked in a series called American Gladiators (2008 – 2009) which was back then a really popular program on TV. Although vibrant on the outside, Hogan was excruciatingly struggling to deal with himself. At this moment, like an angel sent from above, the compassionate Ali brought Hogan back.

That one phone call from Laila Ali that saved Hulk Hogan’s life

Hogan and Ali both recounted the tale later, when they were interviewed. Hogan, who was on rum and anti-depressant, was close to “pulling the trigger” and ending his precious life. However, just when Hogan found himself on the cliff, a phone call from Laila Ali approached him. He said, “All of a sudden the phone rang, and it was Laila, and she said, ‘Hey, what’s going on? You’re on the set. You’re all depressed. We’re worried about you. You going to be OK?’ ”

“She called with no agenda, just to say hi and check on me. It snapped me out of it. At that moment, I switched gears. I got sick and tired of being sick and tired. Her voice saved my life, it really did,” Hogan added by saying.

What is your opinion on the matter? Depression is a serious issue in our society and often is lost in the crowd. Don’t you think that we should be more sensitive and not judge someone on the surface? Indeed, that one phone call with no agenda can save a life.
