David Benavidez beat David Lemieux via TKO in round 3 and became the WBC interim super-middleweight champion. He attained his twenty-sixth win in 26 fights and seemed focused on the future rather than his incredible display in Arizona. After the fight, the two-time super middleweight champion sent a chilling warning to undisputed super-middleweight champ Canelo Alvarez, Jermall Charlo, and Caleb Plant.

In the post-fight interview, the 25-year-old said, “I’m waiting for somebody contract B**** know whats up. I’m right here waiting for them. I’m not scared of nobody, I’m the youngest guy. Three-time world champion in 168 division. I will put my belts against anybody and I guarantee you I knock everybody out.”

Praising himself for achieving another milestone early in his career, Benavidez said, “Mike Tyson gave me the name ‘Mexican monster’. What do you think I’m gonna do? I just show I’m the strongest at 168 pounds and nobody can mess me.”

Furthermore, he thanked his opponent and former IBF middleweight champion Lemieux for accepting the challenge. ‘The Red Flag’ labeled him as a ‘special type of breed’ and praised him.

The highlight of the fight between David Benavidez and David Lemieux

After challenging the Mexican icon Canelo Alvarez several times, the Phoenix boxer did not succeed in getting the shot against him. Finally, he came up to face the Canadian pugilist Lemieux at the Gila River Arena on Saturday night. ‘The Red Flag’ geared up with the echoing sound of a bell and caught fire in the opening round itself.

The former champ stunned Lemieux with a left hook at the end of the round. The punch was so lethal that it stumbled Canadian. It was the bell that saved ‘The Demolisher’ from the flurry of punches unloaded by Benavidez.

Though Lemieux tried to engage, he was neutralized. Every shot that Benavidez landed on his opponent inched him towards a big title clash. He sent Lemieux to the floor through the ropes, and finally, the referee stopped the fight in the third round.
