Brazil’s legend Zico has recently announced his intention to stand as a contender for the post of the President of FIFA.

Sepp Blatter stunned the world last week by announcing that he’ll be resigning from his position as the FIFA president amidst the corruption controversy, which has left many questions in the minds of people, as to who will be the next FIFA president and who all will be the contenders.

Since the announcement has been made, quite a few have shown interest by speaking openly on the issue of corruption and the position they are going to contest for in the next few months. The list of possible candidates till now is : Luis Figo, Prince Ali and Diego Maradona.

Zico expressed his opinion at a press conference in Rio saying, “It’s sad for our sport to see what is happening in football today – such corruption, and the hard work of many other good people being wasted.”

“And I see it as my duty to use my experience and knowledge to try and stand for the FIFA presidency.”

Zico has worked in such positions in the past which makes his case much stronger, but he lasted just four months as executive director of Flamengo in 2010 before quitting due to political pressures.

The Brazilian has also managed in Japan, Turkey, Russia, Greece and the Middle East since his playing career ended.
