Former no 1 title contender, Brian Ortega was scheduled to fight Chan Sung Jung in the final fight card of this year. However, after Ortega pulled out of the fight due to an injury the main event for UFC Busan was in danger. There were not a ton of options available for the replacement. Well, Frankie Edgar was supposed to fight on January 25th next year, but now he replaces Ortega in the main event of UFC Busan.

In a recent radio interview, Dana White revealed that Edgar was the one who showed interest in this fight.

“Frankie Edgar hit me up and said that he wanted to take the fight. Edgar was supposed to fight January 25th, so instead, he is gonna take December 21st fight against Korean Zombie,” said White.

For a meaningful period, Edgar has shown interest to drop down to bantamweight division ever since he lost the title fight against Max Holloway. He was even scheduled to take on Cody Stamann in his next fight. However, Korean Zombie, Chan Sung Jung is a well-known name among the fans and a win over him might take him closer to the UFC title no matter the division he wants to fight in next.

Reportedly, Ortega pulled out due to a tear in his ACL while training and is already under rehab. Earlier Ortega stated:

“I tore my ACL in training and I won’t be fighting in Korea. Thankfully it was only a partial tear so I’m already rehabbing it and the plan is to be back to 100% in 2-3 months. I didn’t want to let down the fans, the Zombie, and the UFC, so I strongly considered pushing through it and fighting anyways, but according to the doctors, the risk of a full rupture in the fight was high and that would put me out for up to a year. Sorry guys I gotta take care of this right now, but I’ll make it up to all of you 2020 I promise.”

The fight against Korean Zombie was supposed to be the comeback fight for Ortega after his loss to Max Holloway. However, it seems he will make his comeback in the second half of next year considering his rehab goes as planned.
