“Bringing Home the Bacon”: Eugenie Bouchard Thrilled As Canada Women’s Soccer Team Bag the Gold at Tokyo Olympics 2020

Tennis personality Eugenie Bouchard has been one of the most notable players on the Tour. The Canadian star is quite popular with fans and amongst the tennis fraternity. When she first emerged on Tour, she grew in popularity rather quickly. 

In recent months, Eugenie Bouchard has been quite active on social media. As she has spent most of the time on the sidelines due to injury, she has found a way to remain connected with fans. She has been following the Tokyo Olympics thoroughly and expresses her joy whenever an athlete or a team from Canada competes.

She recently was overwhelmed as the women’s soccer team of Canada won the gold medal. She commented, “WOMEN’s SOCCER!!! BRINGING HOME THE BACON!!! So proud.” To win a gold medal at the Olympic Games is something that holds tremendous importance for an athlete.

The Canadian women’s soccer team picked up the gold medal in thrilling fashion against Sweden. The win came by way of a Penalty shoot-out where Canada inched past Sweden with a 3-2 score on the scoreboards. Chiefly, this is the first time they have picked up Olympic gold in the sport of soccer. 

Eugenie Bouchard has barely played tennis this season

Reflecting on Bouchard’s season, she began competing at the Australian Open but couldn’t make it past the second qualifying round. After that, she played a couple of tournaments in Mexico, reaching the finals in the first event and losing in the opening round in the second.

Since then, she has not played any event and had to undergo surgery on her right shoulder. She has not been on Tour for a long time. However, she has taken up a role of an analyst on the Tennis Channel and will continue to do so until the US Open Series events are over with.
