Brooklyn Nets player Rodions Kurucs was arrested on Tuesday on allegations of the forward choking his then-girlfriend back in June.

Kurucs’ lawyer Alex Spiro, as reported by The New York Daily Mail, noted there are no photos of the alleged assault, and that the woman didn’t report the incident for nearly two months.

“As I understand it, self-reported injuries, judge,” Spiro said.

He added the then-couple flew to Las Vegas together the day after the alleged assault. They had dated for nine months and broken up days before she filed a criminal complaint, Spiro said.

Sources claim Kurucs screaming, “I am going to kill myself” before choking the woman, pushing her on the bed, slapping her in the face twice, biting her lip and injuring her ribs by picking her up and throwing her on the bed.

The Nets released a statement on the arrest where they did not intend to comment much until the investigation ends.

“After learning of the allegations against Rodions Kurucs, we notified and are assisting the League Office as they begin the process of gathering more information,” the statement read. The Nets organization takes allegations of this nature with extreme seriousness. While the investigation is underway and as we continue to learn more, we will refrain from commenting further.”

Rodions Kurucs, only 21, is considered as an excellent prospect in Basketball. He joined the Spanish giants FC Barcelona at the age of 17, initially playing for the junior club and later moved to the senior level. In 2017, he first came into the NBA draft but withdrew before he could be picked. In 2018, he again came into the draft where he was picked by Brooklyn Nets. He made good start to his life in US.

By the turn of the year,  Kurucs was named a participant of the 2019 Rising Stars Challenge as a member of the World Team.
