Mike Bryan on ATP Finals: “It was a hell of a match”

After their splendid 2018 season, Mike Bryan and Jack Sock extend their productivity and dominance to magnificently conclude their year. The American pair outplayed the French duo, Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut. They battled past them 5-7, 6-1, 13-11 in the ATP Finals doubles event in London. The Americans flunked to seal their victory in the five championship points which they received. Also, they saved a match point against the French pair to lift the ATP Finals doubles title. The French team were the champions at this year’s Roland Garros and they will be in action at next week’s Davis Cup final.

The Americans formed their team in June this year, and since then they have been pre-eminent on the doubles circuit. This year, the 40-year-old, Mike Bryan has clinched five titles. Two of them were won with his usual partner, his twin Bob Bryan, who has called off his 2018 season due to a hip injury in May. And the other three of them were achieved by partnering the Nebraska native, Jack Sock. Which also comprise of the victories at Wimbledon and the US Open.

“It was a hell of a match,” Bryan said. “It’s been a hell of a ride. To win here is just an epic experience. To finish a great year off the right way, winning here, against some of the best teams in the world. The way we did, it went down to the wire. It was pretty exciting.” Mike continued, ”This could be our last hoorah because Bob’s training back in Florida.” Bryan becomes the oldest tennis champion of this tournament. Also, he is the oldest ATP year-end No.1 in history. “At 40 you really appreciate these moments a lot more,” said Bryan. “You’re looking around trying to soak in as much of these great feelings as possible because you don’t really know if you’re ever going to feel that feeling again.”
