Meanwhile, a Microsft Store listing for the upcoming game suggests that the title has an approximate size of 100.04GB. Whether that is the download size or the overall storage size cannot be said for certain. Whatever the case is, it means that Cold War will require a minimum of 100GB storage space on consoles.
While the Xbox Series X and the PS5 will ship with default 1TB and 825GB hard drives respectively, most current-gen console owners have around 500GB to play with. Even the next-gen consoles seem inadequate in terms of storage for escalating game sizes from AAA developers. Maybe it’s time everyone has to consider buying a secondary storage drive.
Call of Duty players have faced storage problems since the inception of Modern Warfare and Warzone. Modern Warfare, including all its content and Warzone, has grown bigger with updates, weighing nearly 200GB in current install sizes. It is a trend which Cold War is likely to follow and might take up even more space on players’ hard drives with the additional content and updates.

Only time will tell how much disk space the new title will actually settle for. It seems the classic COD combat and the stunning visuals showcased in the trailers will come at a small price for storage. Meanwhile, the Black Ops Cold War beta starts on October 8 for PS4 and on October 15 for Xbox One and PC. Pre-orders for the game will allow for beta access on any platform, and pre-orders are still going on.
