Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Latest Patch Nerfs the Overpowered MP5

The latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise, Black Ops Cold War, finally hit the stores on November 13. The CoD community had high expectations from the title; however, it seems the developers need to make some changes in the game already.
Within a week of its release, Treyarch has nerfed the ‘submachine gun alpha’, better known as the MP5. Along with a 33% decrease in its effective damage range, the developer has also adjusted the initial recoil of the gun.
Owing to the update, fans finally have an incentive to try out the other four SMGs in the game.

Treyarch Studio Heads Open Up About Black Ops Cold War Development
This move comes after several fans complained about the MP5’s overpowered statistics. Being an SMG, the MP5 offered high mobility and a quickfire rate.
Accordingly, the gun had been dominating the public lobbies since the release of the game because it was not only effective at close range but even in cross-mapping. Even Dr Disrespect raged about the gun’s statistics in a recent live stream.
It’s a relief that the latest patch significantly restricts the MP5’s ability to even beat the Assault Rifles at long ranges.

Apparently, overpowered guns are not the only bone of contention in Activision’s latest title. The game has a very strong skill-based matchmaking system, because of which even professional Call of Duty players are struggling, if not failing, to maintain a 2.0 K/D.
Interestingly, Call of Duty Cold War is not the only game that poses this problem. Several other titles like Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Modern Warfare, among others, have witnessed a huge decrease in their user-base owing to SBMM.

For the casual players, SBMM is certainly a blessing in disguise because they need not worry about facing an excessively competitive lobby that stomps them easily. On the flip side, pros and content creators often struggle to enjoy games with SBMM because it eats into the fun aspect, which doesn’t make for the most compelling content.
