The first Call of Duty game released in 2003, and ever since then to the franchise’s latest iteration in Black Ops Cold War, the series has always been a first-person shooter experience.

Over the years, the franchise has had multiple gameplay mechanics and environments that have changed the player’s experiences. Some games like the Modern Warfare series have always provided the most grounded gameplay with boots on the ground mechanics and modern weapons. Games such as WWII have given fans a slower style of gameplay with older weapons. Others such as Advanced and Infinite Warfare gave fans a glimpse of the future with wallriding and futuristic weapons.

But all these games have had one thing in common, which was the first-person mode. But perhaps the developers finally tried to branch out to third-person with one of the franchise’s most popular modes, Zombies.

Third Person mode in Black Ops Cold War Zombies

Previous Call of Duty iterations never really made the jump to a third person mode. The same applies for Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War Zombies, so the question rises about why the developers should ever change the just for Zombies. The reason lies in the game’s most recent mode, Outbreak.

The new Outbreak event launched with the release of Season 2 in Black Ops Cold War. The mode brought a breath of fresh air for fans who were bored with the same gameplay offered in the main storyline. The high-risk, high-reward element to the mode allowed players to set the tempo for the game. The large open map also allowed players to travel using multiple modes of transport such as vehicles, jump pads and many more.

Driving is the major mode of transport in Outbreak, as players can also use them to kill zombies hordes. This is a similar mechanism to the franchise’s Battle Royale title, Call of Duty Warzone. But unlike Warzone, players are driving these vehicles in third person mode and not first person.

Why fans would love an option for Third-Person in Zombies

It might seem weird for most Call of Duty fans to play one of their game modes in third person. But playing a chaotic game like zombies in third person gives players an advantage of getting a larger view of the map. Previously, mods have allowed fans to play games like Black Ops II Zombies in third person and they look extremely cool, fast-paced and adventurous.

Along with that, changing to third person would also allow fans to get a good look at the different operator skins in Black Ops Cold War. With players having to pay for such skins, it would be a great deal of service from the developers in allowing the fans to see them in action. While most fans would definitely prefer first person, a toggle to switch the view into third person will become a fan favorite addition.
