Call of Duty: Warzone Takes Major Step Towards Anti-Cheating With New Driver Launch

Taking a major step against hackers, Call of Duty: Warzone is finally unveiling a new anti-cheat Ricochet driver. It is coming to the PC this week, and will later expand to Call of Duty: Vanguard as well. The Ricochet team is adding a ‘kernel-level driver’, to be implemented on the PC. This will ultimately give the game full access to a user’s computer, to scan for suspicious applications running in the background.
As per Activision’s recent FAQ, the driver will allow Call of Duty: Warzone to detect any cheating-based software running on the PC. The need for this new anti-cheat driver comes after considering the fact that many hacking applications these days are very advanced. They can smartly manipulate the game’s code without actually running in the background. Thus, the new ‘kernel-level driver’ will improve on this aspect and scan any other application operating simultaneously with the game itself.

With its launch later this week, the anti-cheat driver will only operate when the players are actually playing the game. It implies that as soon as they exit out of Warzone on their PCs, the software will also shut itself down, according to Activision. The kernel-level driver will initially arrive in the Asia-Pacific region, before spreading worldwide. However, the console versions of Call of Duty: Warzone won’t have it.

Last month, the publisher updated its security policy for the Call of Duty games. It states that if the players continue cheating in the matches, they may be banned from all the franchise titles. This means that they will be able to play neither the current Call of Duty entries nor any future releases. Simply put, the cheaters now have a reason to be scared.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available across the globe on major platforms like PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X and S, and Xbox One.
