Iker Casillas’ agent Carlo Cutropia has revealed that the veteran goalkeeper wants out of Real Madrid, and the club captain hopes to pursue a career at Porto.
Casillas has been criticized for his below par performances for the past two seasons and has been blamed for making some high-profile mistakes in important matches recently. Therefore, there has been widespread speculation about the World Cup winner’s future at Madrid.
The Santiago Bernabeu side’s desire to lure Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea back to La Liga has fuelled the rumours of the Spaniard’s departure even more. And with Costa Rican keeper Keylor Navas also a contender for the No.1 jersey at Madrid, Casillas wants a move away from the Bernabeu and he is hopeful Madrid will allow him to join Porto.
“Casillas is pretty excited about the opportunity to join Porto,” the 34-year-old’s representative told Record. “We hope Real Madrid will allow him to move on and give him an easy exit.”
Casillas, who still has two years left on his current contract with Madrid, has been in the first team for 16 years now, having made over 700 appearances in all competitions for the club.
In his time with the Blancos, Casillas has won five La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, four times the Supercopa de Espana, three Champions Leagues, two Uefa Super Cups, the Fifa Club World Cup and the Intercontinental Cup.
