Leonard Ellerbe, it seems, wants Eddie Hearn to stop meddling in Gervonta Davis‘ business. In an early morning tweet, the Mayweather Promotions CEO brought in the old instance of the Matchroom boss’ interference as the world champion moved towards the Ryan Garcia fight.
According to Leonard Ellerbe, there’s no point in throwing peanuts at Gervonta Davis. If the lightweight champion is genuinely interested in fighting under a promotion, then he would do so on his own accord. The latest flare-up amidst ongoing fracas over a Devin Haney and ‘Tank’ fight might remind fans of last year’s instance. There were reports of Hearn luring Davis to fight ‘KingRy’ under the Matchroom’s banner. Only the amount differed. Then it was seemingly $10 million. Now, it has purportedly moved to $20 million.

Replying to a tweet that showed Eddie Hearn talking about the offer made to Gervonta Davis, Leonard Ellerbe said, “He tried to insert himself in Tank and Ryan; it ain’t never happening, buddy. Speaking with Fight Hub TV, Hearn shared that he had made the offer. Even Bill Haney knew about it and that there were other lucrative deals as well. But unfortunately, Gervonta Davis didn’t appear too keen on discussing the matter. Eddie Hearn hoped that the big fight would eventually make it to the ring.
The Matchroom boss said, “There seems to be quite a bit of bad blood; that’s why I came in and messaged him just to try and get a little bit of, you know, I’m not really in the the circle of butting heads at the moment with all those guys, but there is a huge amount of money for Gervonta Davis for that fight, so I just wanted to let him know, but unfortunately he didn’t want to know about it.”
He clarified that he’s not in the business of leaking direct messages. Eddie Hearn also shared that there was reportedly a discussion between Bill Haney and a member of the Davis team. It was about the offer, probably of more than $20 million, he wanted to put forward.

A lead-up to the fight offer ‘leak-gate’
The slanging war appears to have switched gears after Devin Haney’s win over Regis Prograis. Earlier, Gervonta Davis took a dig when reports of the match at the Chase Center selling out came up. Then he also scoffed at reports of Haney rehydrating at 165 pounds in the fight against Prograis’ 156.8. Later, during the post-fight presser, both the new WBC light welterweight champion and his father went after the Baltimorean for avoiding a fight.
