Former undisputed and later unified middleweight champion Jermell Charlo will have to face the prosecution in March. ESPN‘s Mike Coppinger shared an update some time ago. The world champion reportedly has March 2 set as the date for arraignment in Texas. Last week, Charlo was arrested for allegedly causing bodily harm to a family member.
On Monday, he secured a release subsequent to posting bonds. Later, his wife, Chyane Westbrook, initiated divorce proceedings along with a temporary restraining order on Tuesday, according to court records. Per most available accounts, this wouldn’t be the first time that Jermell Charlo would be going through legal hassles. The 33-year-old, Louisiana-born boxer had challenged Canelo Alvarez for his undisputed super middleweight title three months ago. But unfortunately, he fell short of expectations.

According to the information ESPN received from the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday, police arrested Jermell Charlo. They charged him with misdemeanor assault causing bodily injury to a family member. Two days later, per the records, Charlo requested the court consider his release after he had furnished bonds. Then the next day, his wife filed a divorce petition, which also included a temporary restraining order against the boxer.
Five years ago, in May 2018, Jermell Charlo reportedly faced charges of ‘felony domestic violence.’ Allegedly, he choked his then-girlfriend. But a year later, a jury acquitted him. They found him innocent of the charges. The identity of the person in the latest case hasn’t been disclosed.

Jermell Charlo: The ring story thus far
Jermell Charlo fought Canelo Alvarez on September 30 for the latter’s undisputed super middleweight title. The ‘Iron Man’ probably aimed for a second undisputed championship, following Terence Crawford’s feat in July. However, despite the obvious risks, the outcome was far from what he expected.
Subsequently, last month, Jermell Charlo relinquished his IBF title as the purse bid against the belt’s first contender, Bakhram Murtazaliev, neared. Given the criticality of the case involved, it remains to be seen how his plan for the upcoming year will unfold.
