When the sport of boxing is talked about, most refer to normative, canonical boxing. But little does anyone know that the world also encompasses various genres and schools of thought when it comes to boxing. One such unique technique stems from China, a martial art technique famously called the Five Ancestor Boxing.
The martial art technique consists of principles from five styles. It is a culmination of breathing methods, posture, and dynamic power; precision and efficient movement; hand techniques, and agility of footwork. All these elements are equally important in pursuing the ancient combat technique. To this day, there are folks who are mesmerized and in awe of this ancient form of combat.

An exhibition of traditional prowess
A video posted by the Burinkan Martial Arts school on Facebook shows a Sifu or a teacher/ master showing off some absolutely wind-cutting and seamless moves of the Five Ancestor boxing technique. The video is captioned, “Sifu 张晓峰 performing Five Ancestor Boxing’s 天罡 form.” It translates to “Master Zhang Xiaofeng performing Five Ancestor Boxing’s Tiangang form”.
Users were quick to express how impressed they were with the Sifu’s acumen in the martial art sport.
Michael Smith commented, “Anyone see that hadooken he threw? I saw it.” The Hadooken is a famous special attack move that was featured in a combat games series.
Another user was so impressed that he said that the Sifu would probably be the best in all Styles of Chinese Martial Arts (SCMA). He said, “He’s not only probably one of the best proponents of 5A, but likely also all of SCMA.”
Nile Wilson further pointed out that the moves look lethal. He commented, “It looks like you can get really hurt by those strikes!”

However, Jabari Logan inquired about the fighting technique. He asked, “I see parts of Sam Chien Sip li and Sam To Tim tao ( with one hand?) What form is this sifu?” The Facebook page responded, “It says “Tian Gong”, but it appears different than most 5A forms of that name.”
Andrew Howard acknowledged the impressive footwork of the Sifu. The user commented, “Brilliant lot of controlled power footwork is spot on.”
It is important that more such hidden combat sports forms are further brought into the spotlight and given the attention that they truly deserve. These are all lost treasures of the combat arena that need to be revived. And as we do that, it will be interesting to see them find recognition at a global level.
