Francis Ngannou stopped time momentarily when his powerful left hook sent Tyson Fury down, touching the canvas. However, that wasn’t enough to convince the judges. The reigning Heavyweight Boxing champion’s split decision victory over a mixed martial artist making his pro boxing debut has left many in heartbreak. Further, many boxing veterans seem to be questioning his effectiveness as he prepares for what could be the most critical match of his career.

There hasn’t been an undisputed Heavyweight boxing champion since Lennox Lewis. The legend, in his time, dazzled the world with his fights against Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, and Hasim Rahman. Perhaps more than any fan, he wants his record to be broken. Fury and the unified champion, Oleksandr Usyk, stepped in for their upcoming big match. However, Lewis minced no words, expressing his doubts over Fury. Especially after the way the Cameroonian-French fighter made him go the distance.

‘The Lion’ roars—a candid critique of Tyson Fury’s performance by Lennox Lewis

On his X (formerly Twitter) account, Lennox Lewis cited the jungle law as an example. He said that one predator heading the food chain could not allow another predator to enter its turf and defeat him. Hence, without an iota of doubt, with the close fight with Fury, Francis Ngannou’s impact has increased tremendously. But it hasn’t been the same for the boxing champion. His reputation has undoubtedly taken a hit after an unimaginative and listless performance.

‘The Lion’ shared what he felt when he first saw Fury’s love handles. Doubts crept into his mind about whether the latter had completed an entire training camp’s duration. Otherwise, if he had, then he would have been in shape. Lewis seemingly perceives that ‘The Gypsy King’ must have been in the base for four to six weeks at the best. Anyhow, the former world champion appears confident that it is not the same Tyson Fury who stunned the daylights out of someone like Deontay Wilder!

Interestingly, Lennox Lewis is not the only one who seems disappointed by Tyson Fury’s performance.

Now comes the hard part

Chris Eubank Jr. felt that ‘The Predator’ won! He said, “Fury deserved to lose after having so much trouble against a man who has never boxed before… too much time filming Netflix specials, not enough time in the gym, I’m guessing.”

December 23 appears as the tentative date for the undisputed bout between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. It raises doubts among many about whether the WBC Heavyweight champion has enough time to prepare for the fight and convince everyone why he deserves to be recognized as the best Heavyweight boxer of the era. In Oleksandr Usyk, he faces a sharp and ingenious opponent. The Ukrainian prefers moving around the ring and, most importantly, will do anything that takes him to score a victory.
