Mental Health is a reality of this world that not a lot of folks seem to accept. It is that omnipresent factor in everyone’s life that determines how they function to how they perceive realities. Amidst these complex negotiations, there is another realm that one needs to understand: technology. Another reality that never ceases to evolve. The backbone of today’s civilization, technology is a story that needs heavy dissection. Akon and Logan Paul did exactly that.
In a conversation that ranged from Michael Jackson to Christianity, and Eminem’s hopeful presence on ImPaulsive, rapper Akon and Logan Paul oozed the energy that the two are popularly known for. In an intense conversation of such varied topics, one segment saw them discussing the relevance of mental health and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Well, it was not just a conversation, it was more of a thought-provoker.

“We’re programming a machine that can learn,” Akon and Logan Paul Address the AI concern
In a world today that heavily relies on Artificial Intelligence, there still remains a dark space where the future of such groundbreaking technology remains unknown. While most fear that AI might replace human thought, some have argued otherwise. Addressing such fears, legendary rapper, Akon said, ” Has anybody ever thought to think or even imagine or realize that it’s us who’s building this? And it’s like us who’s programming this. No machine can do anything without us programming it to do so. But we’re programming a machine that can learn. That’s the problem.”
Diving deeper into the context of AI, the rapper elaborated on why AI is actually dangerous. He claimed that the threat posed by AI in fact stems from how less mental health remains a potent concern. He said, “The biggest problem America has or the West is the brain. There’s so much mental disease. So much mental like illness going on that we never took the time to even focus on that half of these. You know these mass shootings are mentally ill people. Like how does that not be the president focus and priority for everything? Because guess what as long as that exists AI is the most scariest thing and will be the most dangerous thing on the planet for our future. Because it’s going to be people that’s mentally f*cked up that’s dealing with these machines.”
However, the conversation did not end there. As ‘Maverick’ Logan Paul and Akon further discussed the stakeholders in the ushering of this AI boom, they spoke about the folks sitting at Silicon Valley giving birth to such technology. The rapper claimed that a majority of programmers who work on such projects are mentally ill. Elucidating on what he meant by calling them ‘mentally ill’, Akon said, “Like they’re non-social. They’re very they’re introverts. Like they all are weird because mentally they’re not all the way there. Like God don’t give you everything. He’ll give you intelligence but then you have mental illness.”
Further, the conversation also entails how the perceptions of normal mental health vary from person to person. The rapper further explained that those programmers do not usually have the same lifestyles and behavior patterns as those outside of the tech space. And it’s vice versa. Folks from outside of the tech realm too don’t usually subscribe to the lifestyle of those in the realm.

By negotiating between mental illness and a sense of misunderstanding, the rapper said, “But sometimes it leads to… let me not even say Mental Illness but sometimes it leads to a point of misunderstanding so far that we may think they’re crazy but they’re not. They just aren’t just more awoke than we are from a level of intelligence.”
