Leonard Ellerbe advises fans to exercise caution amidst fight rumors

The potential bout between Terence Crawford and Canelo Álvarez is something that the fans have been wanting for a while now. Recently a post surfaced on Twitter that questioned the validity of the rumor about the fight. It stated, “Canelo fighting Jermall Charlo I can believe, he’s had one fight with a smaller person, missed weight, inactivity, and hasn’t fought at 168.” They also pointed out how Canelo’s silence doesn’t bode well for the prospect of the fight. In response, Ellerbe advised to not believe the rumors until Canelo or his promoter said something about the fight. He wrote, “If it didn’t from Canelo or Eddy don’t believe anything. He will announce what’s he’s doing when he’s ready!”.

Ellerbe advised the fans to have patience and only trust Canelo’s words when it comes to the question about his next fight. In the meantime, here’s what boxing Hall of Famer has to say about the upcoming Charlo fight.

Rick Glaser thinks that Canelo Álvarez fighting Charlo won’t rake in the money

Even though David Benavidez has been hounding Alvarez for a showdown, the latter still isn’t willing to give ‘the Mexican Monster’ a chance. As of now, it seems that Canelo will be facing Jermall Charlo next, leaving the Benavidez fight up in the air. International Boxing Hall Of Fame elector Rick Glaser shares his financial outlook on a Charlo vs. Alvarez bout. He predicts, “Here’s a prediction, #Canelo vs #JermallCharlo May 4 won’t flop on PPV because Canelo doesn’t flop, but it won’t do enough buys for Canelo to earn anymore than his guaranteed purse, not enough to have his upside kick in, & because of that Canelo will decide who he fights in September.”

He predicts that the fight against Charlo won’t flop on PPV, crediting Canelo’s popularity. Yet, Glaser foresees the earnings limited to Canelo’s guaranteed purse, with no substantial upside.

According to Glaser, Álvarez might need a September fight to compensate for the purse shortfall. Moreover, he emphasizes that David Benavidez won’t be the chosen opponent, despite the latter’s persistent pursuit.
