Teofimo Lopez Sr. came out in support of his son as he discussed Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’ acumen. He spoke vividly in favor of his son in an interview with FightHype. Teofimo’s father and trainer, Lopez Sr. has always defended and further spoken for his son ferociously. And the interview is yet another example of that.

The father on video call attacked Tank for being overhyped and further endorsed his son Teofimo. It is notable that Senior has always taken it up his sleeves to be his son’s biggest protector in the public eye. Previously, in another interview, he had tackled the criticism his son received after defeating Sandor Martin in a very controversial decision.

Teofimo Lopez, a former unified Lightweight world champion, held the IBF title for 2 years until the year 2021. Known for his aggressive and flashy style of fight, Lopez rose to fame after he won against the infamous Vasiliy Lomachenko in 2020. Right now, junior Lopez is riding on his victory against Josh Taylor. Lopez managed to defeat Taylor by a unanimous decision victory of 115-113, 115-113, and 117-111. With this victory, he grabbed Josh Taylor’s WBO world by disrupting his winning streak maintained since 2015. Proud father, Teofimo Lopez Sr. has been very vocal about the pride his son brings to him.

Teofimo Lopez Sr. takes a dig at Gervonta Davis

When the interviewer asked the senior’s thoughts on Tank, the father took a rather aggressive tone. He said, “What had Tank done in the frickin past? They call him the world champion. The dude is not a champion. The only world title he got was against Pedraza. An old-a**, fat-a** Pedraza.” He is referring to the ultimate showdown of 2017. That night, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis craved his name in boxing history after defeating Jose Pedraza in a knockout fight.

However, what Lopez Sr. says does not match up to the prowess Tank has shown in the ring. The man has won 13 consecutive world title fights. He has already been crowned a world champion in three different weight classes.

An undefeatable Teofimo, claims his father

When the interviewer further asked about a matchup between Tank Davis and Teofimo Lopez, the father said, Listen. Ain’t nobody no beating my son when he boxes. Nobody. Not nobody in the world. You know what I am saying?” The confidence is pretty justified given the show his son gave recently in The Theater at Madison Square Garden. The boxing arena was sold out and had an attendance of 5,151.

Speaking further on Teofimo, his father said that when his son boxes and is healthy there is no way anybody can defeat him. “You know, when he got no issues with his lungs or anything like that? Ain’t nobody beating him.” The fighter lost to George Kambosos in November 2021. In his post-fight analysis at the ER, Lopez was diagnosed with “pneumomediastinum” with “extensive air in the retropharyngeal space”. His doctors said that he had a near-death experience as such conditions are overwhelmingly life-threatening.

However, he came back and now rides on the voices of victory. It is to see if he will ever go against Tank Davis. But his father remains resilient over his son’s fighting skills and acumen. His potential in the ring cannot go unmissed.
