Two weeks ago, Ryan Garcia let the world know that his team had touched base with Devin Haney for a fight. The move followed his resounding win over Oscar Duarte early in December. The bout was a comeback of sorts for the 25-year-old boxing sensation after the career-first defeat to Gervonta Davis in April.

Devin Haney duly acknowledged Team Garcia’s reach out. The duo knows each other well from their amateur days. Reportedly, both fought six bouts, with the outcome split equally. Per available reports, negotiation talks have seemingly begun. So understandably, fans are eagerly waiting to hear the latest developments on the big fight. Perhaps even a hint that the fight is on might put them at ease. Bernard Hopkins, who, along with Oscar De La Hoya, manages Ryan Garcia, shared some information while speaking with Fight Hub TV.

Bernard Hopkins: No misleading optimism

Revealing how he, just like others, wanted to see the Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney fight take place, ‘B-Hop’ informed that the conversations were taking place. He said, “But you know, I…I don’t want to tell the fans that it’s definitely going to happen. I’ll tell the fans that talks are being talked about….uh business…

Then he clarified that fans will be the first to hear about it when the deal comes about. Many times, flashy talks converge in the social media world. It does well in terms of personal branding. However, the same might not hold true when it comes to the sport. Hence, in his opinion, an announcement for a fight should take place, but only at the most opportune time. Hopkins said, “

… um let’s see, I think we should do more of announcing when it’s time than anything else.

‘B-Hop’ concluded, “

But I believe that the conversation is serious they are they are they are serious enough to say that it’s a chance that it should happen and it will happen.” Devin Haney, like Garcia, comes off a spectacular win over Regis Prograis on December 9. The triumph made him a champion in another weight division (two in total).

As could be expected Hopkins, at the current stage, may want to keep the cards close to his chest. However, many fans might heave a sigh of relief that the talks are going on between the parties. At least they appear keen on bringing up the match between two of the biggest stars of the current era. If it does succeed, then the Ryan Garcia-Devin Haney bout will join the ranks of Tyson FuryOleksandr Usyk as one of the year’s most significant fights.
