Shakur Stevenson had been looking out for an opponent for his mega-fight on November 16, for a long time. He had called out a lot of elite-level boxers to establish his reputation in the lightweight division. He even decided to call out the big names of the division, Devin Haney and Vasyl Lomachenko. However, none of the fights could come to fruition. He even got the opportunity to face Devin Haney for the undisputed crown, but Stevenson backed off due to a 75-25 purse split in favor of the former undisputed lightweight champion.
Even with Loma, the fight couldn’t happen but he hoped that he’d be facing the Ukrainian boxer as his first opponent in 2024. So, after many negotiations fell apart with him, Stevenson stated that he was being avoided by the crème de la crème of the lightweight division. So, recently, he was asked what he felt about being the most avoided guy.

Finally, Stevenson found his matchup against the Dominican boxer Edwin De Los Santos, for the vacant WBC title. The bout will take place on November 16 at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas. Ahead of his fight, in an interview with ESNEWS, Stevenson was asked about his feelings about being the most avoided guy in the sport right now. So, the boxer mentioned that he didn’t like it, and then was asked to elaborate on it.
Stevenson enunciated, “Because once again I’m a competitive person. I like to fight, I want to fight in biggest fights, I want to fight against the best and push myself. I don’t want to fight mediocre competition, so I don’t like fighting mediocre.” Then he doesn’t mean De Los Santos is a mediocre fighter, and claimed that “he’s a good boxer.”
Shakur Stevenson has been preparing for this fight quite dedicatedly. At the same time, he’s been trying to plan his next fight. He also talked about how he’s better off fighting against Gervonta Davis than Devin Haney.
